Sandra has had a passion for photography since an early age, when her Dad bought her a Pentax Spotomatic F as her first camera. She has always enjoyed photographing Nature, but a trip to Tysfjord in 2002, to see Killer Whales, is what set her on course to concentrate more specifically on wildlife.
Travelling to remote places, in cold, snowy winter conditions is Sandra's favourite recipe for capturing images which depict the resilience and beauty of the wildlife she photographs. Choosing not to photograph at commercial hides, Sandra prefers instead to work hard at finding her own photographic subjects. An avid traveller, Sandra drives in her overland camper to explore the roads less travelled, aiming to photograph the wildlife she encounters amidst some of Nature's most environmentally significant and diverse places. Sandra aims to capture unique and captivating images that inform and inspire.
Since 2002, Nikon has been Sandra's choice for camera's and lenses. Starting out with a D200, then progressing to a D300s, D3s, D5 and now the more recent mirrorless bodies of the Z8 and Z9, matched with a variety of Nikon lenses. However, Sandra's "go to" lens is the amazing AF-S Nikkor 180mm - 400mm f4/E TC1.4 FL ED VR lens. From photographing Hare's on snow covered Scottish mountains, Dippers on frozen Norwegian rivers, Otters on seaweed strewn coasts, right through to Red Foxes in sub-zero temperatures in the Arctic. Solid, reliable gear is essential.
This website is a tiny selection of images made over two decades, with passion, time, patience, respect and resilience. Every single image has been an absolute privilege to make, and the fact that it has been done independently of any commercial hides is something that Sandra prides herself on.
